For the message of
the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18
In my house are things
of family members who have passed: pictures, an old wallet, a sword used in WW2,
a metal match holder, recipe books, and many more things. Although useful to
them during their lifetime, they serve as reminders of their life.
Today, the cross is
used on home décor, jewelry, tattoos, books, pictures, and so forth. For
Christians, the cross serves as a reminder of the death of Jesus Christ, and
His resurrection for payment of mankind’s sins. To those outside the faith, it is
simply a symbol and they have no true understanding of its power.
Years ago, when I
went through one of the most trying times of my life, I made the decision to
purchase a silver ring with crosses on it as a reminder of my faith. I still
wear it today on my right hand and every time I look at it, I’m reminded of who
I am in Christ. A sinner, forgiven, by the grace, mercy and love of God.
What does the cross
mean to you? My hope and prayer is you’ll truly understand its purpose and if
you have the symbolic cross on something or somewhere displayed, that every
time you look at it, you’ll be reminded of the life of Jesus Christ and His great
sacrifice for you to have a One to One relationship with Him. God bless!
