But it is good for
me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare
all Your works. Psalm 73:28
About 5 years into
my career, I struggled to understand if this was what God really wanted me to
do for the remainder of my employment. I was surrounded by several negative
people who made it even more challenging to stay the course God had set in
motion. I looked at other options, but nothing panned out. After an exhaustive
search, I finally made the decision to block out the negative around me, and
focus on the tasks before me. As a result, my performance ratings went from
good to exceptional for 7 straight years….something that doesn’t normally
happen in the federal workforce. After years of loyalty to my agency, I was
promoted to a supervisory position which helped me reap a wonderful retirement
pension.
Living the Christian
life can be challenging. We live in a world that can easily draw people away
from the holiness God calls us to live. Advertisements that promote possessions,
pleasure, wealth, and opportunities that are endless to gain personal
recognition and social status abound. It’s easy to get caught up in the worldly
affairs. Although their appearance seems positive, they come to a bitter end,
leaving you feeling empty and sometimes without hope. But,
Draw near to God,
and He will draw near to you. James 4:8
God calls us to be separated
from the world so we can sustain our pursuit of holiness. Where does your loyalty
stand, with the world or God? Chose God and you’ll be able to experience His
wisdom, His protection, His encouragement, and most of all His sweet blessings.
It is then you’ll be able to declare the wonderful works of God in your life!
