Therefore, we must
give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
Hebrews 2:1
It’s funny how we
can sit in church or a classroom and learn about something important, then by
the next day or week, we’ve completely forgotten the lesson. Our brains are
like chalkboards, we can only hold so much information in our thoughts, until
other things come along and push them out. I’m just as guilty. There have been
times when I’ve left church and by the time I got home forgot the important
facts of the sermon.
I believe the author
of today’s verse experienced the same problem we have today. It’s easy to
forget biblical teachings. We spend so little time feeding our lives with God’s
word at church, leaving ourselves vulnerable to information the world wants to
feed us through social media, television, news outlets, and our entertainment
choices. It’s funny how we can recall almost every aspect of a movie, but
scripture somehow eludes us before it has time to actually stick in the soul.
If you are a child
of God, I strongly encourage you to keep up with a steady stream of daily
reading God’s word. Download the bible on your phone, as you are probably
reading this blog on your phone. In addition, there are so many spiritual devotionals
out there, written for men, women, married couples, and people going through
all sorts of battles. These spiritual nuggets feed the soul with hope, wisdom,
encouragement, and remind us that God loves us, even with our human frailties.
God’s word should be our daily “go to” for living life to its fullest. Without
it, you’ll soon find your spiritual life adrift, susceptible to the world’s ways.
God bless!
