For there will come
a time when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own
desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves
teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside
to fables. 2 Timothy 4:3-4
In my bedroom is a
NOAA weather radio. It provides 24/7 weather information, forecasts, and sounds
an alert when severe weather is imminent. It’s a useful tool to keep me
prepared for any kind of weather, as long as I listen to it on a daily basis.
If not, I’ll only have a brief time to respond when an alert goes out, leaving
me possibly in a bad situation.
Following the
attacks of 9/11, church attendance increased between 6-24%, and surveys revealed
that 90% of Americans started praying. That day caught everyone off guard, even
though the signs were right in front of our government’s intelligence officers,
law enforcement, and our nation’s leaders. But, they chose to not listen and
believe the signs, questioned whether something of that scale could really
happen, and to everyone’s surprise, it did.
We are living at a
time when the majority of people are filtering their way through all the information
provided through social media, the news, mediums, and radical groups. Many of
these resources are nothing more than data centers of misinformation willing to
receive anyone willing to listen and join their cause. Maybe you are one of
those people who’ve adopted certain beliefs from these outlets and they’ve turned
your thoughts away from God’s word because they sounded good or aligned with your
feelings or desires of the heart.
The heart is
deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? Jeremiah
17:9
Jeremiah 17:9 warns
us not to trust the heart. So, who or what can you trust for living rightly in this
life? God’s word! It’s full of wisdom, encouragement, and direction for how to
live a life pleasing to God. Isn’t that what really matters as God’s creation?
He doesn’t want you to be deceived by false teaching and beliefs, but to know the
truth is to set your life free from eternal damnation. Instead of turning to
the internet, groups, news, and so forth, turn to the bible and be warned about
today and what will come in the future. When the trumpet sounds will you be
ready?
