Matthew 11:28-29
[28] Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
As I get older, my body reminds me how important rest is throughout the day. It's especially true when I'm working outside in this Georgia summer heat. Yesterday I fixed a spotlight outside, then we ran some errands, met one of our kids/grandkids for lunch, and finished up at 2 grocery stores. By the time we got home and unloaded the car, I was done. Got a good hour long nap in the recliner.
You know, life can wear you down with all its business, pressures to perform, and occasionally deal with a crisis. Physical, emotional, even spiritual elements of your body can become exhausted, leaving you vulnerable to health issues (physical and mental) and spiritual attacks from Satan. God never intended for you to live this way.
In today's verse, Jesus actually encourages you to get rest, and find comfort in Him through prayer and Bible reading. You are probably saying, “whose got time for all that”. I used to be that way and finally had to stop the madness and take these verses seriously. What I found out is that the times of rest and a spiritual refresher actually gave me more energy to tackle my responsibilities and kept me from stumbling in my faith. You've got to make time for these renewals or else you'll be running on empty and not your best. Make time for rest and rest in the Lord and you'll see how life runs a little easier when you are fully charged. God bless.
