John 19:38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.
Today we celebrate Good Friday, the day when Jesus Christ, God's Son, was crucified on a Roman cross and died. For the average person, thoughts of someone's death doesn't sound good, much less worth celebrating; but for the Christian, it is their entire existence, their hope, and their assurance of an eternal relationship with God.
Jesus came to save mankind from their sins by dying, then raised back to life 3 days later, defeating death. Jesus made payment for the sins of mankind. Are your sins covered by the blood of Jesus? If so, your life should exemplify that of Christ.
Sadly, many who claim to be Christians hide their faith from others in fear of ridicule, rejection, even persecution for some. Today's verse gives an example of one of Jesus' disciples who lived in secret for fear of his reputation and life. But, inspired by God, he came out from hiding and approached Pilate with the request of Jesus' dead body. I'm sure he was fearful to the core, but it was His moment to let the entire world know who he respected and loved. His actions played a crucial role in the burial of Jesus and proof of His resurrection.
Easter might not mean much to some people, other than a family get together and egg hunting for the kids, but you know the real reason and you have the opportunity to show your world who you love and respect. If you've been hiding your faith, now is the time to come out in boldness to proclaim the truth of this Easter holiday. Without your testimony, many will continue on a path towards Hell. Share your faith this Easter! God bless.
