He who says he abides
in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:6
Growing up on a farm
there was a lot of mud to walk through, and snow in the winter months. When I
would accompany my dad, I always made sure he walked before me and I used his
footprints to step in, keeping me from getting stuck in the mud or covering my
feet with deep snow. It was not an easy task as he was much taller than myself
and his stride was long. But, over time I grew up and was able to keep in step
with him.
As a child of God,
you could relate my story to today’s verse. As a Christian, are you walking in
the same manner as Jesus Christ? Stop reading for 30 seconds and truly evaluate
how you are living.
If you are like me,
there are probably areas that you still struggle to keep in step with Jesus
Christ. Let’s face it, He was perfect, and we as humans are imperfect. God knew
mankind was incapable of being perfect, that’s why He sent His Son, Jesus
Christ, to be the example and to make payment for our sins. Growing in Christ
is maturing your faith and trust in Him, as He leads you through the many
challenges of life. As you mature, your stride becomes longer and you find
yourself a little closer to Jesus Christ every day.
How can you mature?
Reading God’s word daily to understand His heart, praying for God’s protection
and wisdom, and most importantly walking in obedience. Obedience is not what
saves you, but it will keep you close enough to Him for you to learn His ways
even better and the blessings follow as you remain faithful to walk as He
walked.
