Test all things; hold fast what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Have you ever engaged in a conversation with someone and as they spoke, you nodded in approval of what they were saying? Then later, you recall the conversation, processed what they said and realized they were totally in the wrong, or countered your beliefs. I am definitely guilty of this and oftentimes wish I had spoken up at the moment. Maybe you have done the same, but remained quiet so not to cause conflict in the moment of discussion.

As Christians, we need to be very careful what information we take in and accept as truth. Today’s society has shown us the truth is in whatever someone feels or whatever suits their life. Although they might sound very convincing, the truth of God never changes and it should always be used as a filter to dissolve the lies and delusional thinking of others.

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

The best way to filter the words of others is to ask God for wisdom to know the gospel truth, so you can recognize things that counter God’s wisdom. Studying the bible provides a foundation of knowledge and will equip you to extinguish the mis-truth this world believes. As you begin a conversation with someone, simply ask God to be present and listen for His voice of reasoning.  He will show you when the truth is being blurred. Use that time to share your faith and belief, so you can give them a light back to God’s word.
