You shall teach them
to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by
the way, when you like down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 11:19
Growing up on a farm
in Illinois, one of the most frequent topics included the weather. Weather was
the determining factor in what work needed to be done and impact to the crop’s
success or failure to grow and produce corn and beans. Every time I talk to my
dad, you can guarantee weather will come up in our conversation, and still
today (although I’m not on a farm) I am always keeping up with the weather
wherever I go.
Today’s verse in
Deuteronomy provides another important topic that should be seasoned in
everyone’s conversations, the Lord God and what Jesus Christ did for mankind.
For the child of God, talking about His goodness with our children, neighbors,
co-workers, and anyone else we come in contact with, should always be a part of
the conversation. By doing so it does two things, it lets people know what’s
important in your life and it always provides an opportunity to witness to
others.
Let your speech
always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to
answer each one. Colossians 4:6
If your
conversations don’t include God, they are simply useless babbling in His eyes.
Make sure your conversations are full of God’s grace, love, and wisdom as you
talk about the most important topic for everyone’s life. When you do, you’ll
find your conversations have more substance and meaning as you touch the world
with His message of salvation. God bless!
