But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8
Go back in your mind
to a time when you first started a new job. Everything was foreign and you had
no clue how things worked or processes of the business. After a time of
instruction and study, you got the hang of it and eventually your mistakes
turned to productivity and a routine was set in motion without even thinking.
The Christian life
is much like starting a new job. It’s a new way of thinking and doing things
and unless you study scripture, you’ll struggle to get it right by your own
means. Assumptions about how God wants you to live your life will only be met with
disastrous results. The bible is full of instruction and guidance for living an
obedient life. One of the best things you have to help guide you is God’s Holy
Spirit. When you truly seek after Him, He will guide you through each day, convicting
you of wrongdoing, praying on your behalf and encouraging you to make right
decisions.
Today’s verse is
just one example of how you should live. You might find yourself overwhelmed by
the guidance provided in the bible. Rest assured, God knows you are human and
its only natural to struggle with temptation and the vices of the flesh. But,
over time as you learn and grow in your relationship with Him, you’ll see a
change in your behavior. Those things you said and done that were not pleasing
to the Lord, will slowly go away and be replaced with a renewed spirit of obedience
and faithfulness to God.
Ask God to continue
to transform every aspect of your life so that your character becomes more like
Jesus Christ. He’ll do it for you and bless you for your commitment to serve
and honor Him. Change will happen over time with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Grow in your relationship with God, one day at a time. God bless!
