But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62
Have you thought
about your commitment to Jesus? How committed are you to His way of life? Human
nature usually takes our mind back to the old ways, the ways we are comfortable
with, the way that works easy for us. Yet, our old ways and old thinking don’t line
up with God’s ways (Isaiah
55:8). Jesus was pretty clear that anyone who accepts Him, is not
fit for the kingdom if they keep desiring the old way of life.
Commit your works to
the Lord, and your thoughts will be established. Proverbs 16:3
Maybe you struggle
with a sin that seems to follow you like a ball and chain, wrapped around your life
or you find it difficult to develop the Fruits
of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-23. It’s a great parallel that Jesus
compares our attachment to Him as hands to a plow. It’s hard work maneuvering
that plow through the dirt, turning up new soil. But it is necessary if you
want a crop that produces good yields. Same is true for a child of God, you
must remain committed to the Lord, serving Him without question. When you make that
commitment, everything else has no purpose in your life; only what is true, noble,
just, pure, lovely, good report and praiseworthy.
Its time to take
hold of the plow and break new ground for your life, so God can produce a yield
of spiritual blessings through your commitment to live the life He has called
you to through Jesus Christ.
“Be diligent to present
yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
