For where envy and
self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. James 3:16
The other day I was
at a local coffee shop when I overheard a customer telling the barista all of
the changes she wanted to make to her beverage. After her complex order was
received, he shook his head and asked her to repeat herself so he wouldn’t mess
it up. I remember a time, a long while ago, when you got what was on the menu
and there were no substitutions. No doubt, we live in a self-serving society.
As a child of God, it’s
important to check for prideful ways that can hinder and tarnish your witness. When
you align yourself before others, you put those less fortunate souls behind
you, leaving no room for you to show compassion and the character traits of
Christ. It doesn’t take long to read through some passages in the bible to
realize Jesus made time for others, completely humbling Himself by serving
mankind. Can you say your life represents that giving spirit?
“But the wisdom that
is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of
mercy and good fruits, without partiality and hypocrisy.” James 3:17
If you see that
pride has come between you and your fellow man or woman, it’s time to take a
number and step to the back of the line, where you can see people’s needs, to serve
them and leave no one untouched by the love of Christ. God bless!
